Little Benjamin made his arrival in the middle of the night (or early morning, rather) on a Tuesday. I was at a birth the day before this and crossing my fingers that Jessica wouldn’t go into labor while I was at the hospital. Thankfully, that did not happen. I was able to take a little nap before heading to the birth center. On the way, I went through the 24 hour coffee stand to pickup coffee for myself and Thomas. That was around 1am. Baby boy was born just two hours later.
There is something very different about a woman’s second labor. There is a noticeable sense of self-awareness, calm, and they tend to internalize more. Does that mean that it’s easy and they know what to do in every moment? Absolutely not. However, their body has done this before, and they’ve seen the goal at the end and know how worth it it is.
