Welcome!

Thank you so much for booking with me! I am so excited that you've chosen me to capture a special time in your life.
I love personalizing your session, and hearing about your vision!

In this guide, you will learn some tips and tricks to help you be prepared for your session.

Family + Maternity

What to expect

  • I always start with you just "ignoring" me, to help you get comfortable. The beginning of the session is slow and relaxed. I find the session goes smoothly when we just take our time!

  • If the parents just focus on smiling and looking happy, the photos WILL turn out. Even if the kids aren't looking, just focus on making sure YOU look happy. It makes a huge difference!
I will focus on making the kids smile for the times we need smiles. Your job is to ENJOY your children! I cannot stress this enough. If you enjoy yourself, the whole session will be so smooth.

  • Once we have all gotten acquainted, we will start with some family shots. Then, we will move on to a variation of poses.

  • Parents! I highly encourage you to get in some photos together of just the two of you. I hear so often that couples haven't had photos together since their wedding! You may feel awkward at first, if this is something you're not used to. I promise, if nothing else, your children will treasure these images in the future! Promise <3

What to wear

You would be surprised at how easy it can be to put outfits together for a shoot! I promise it isn't as hard as you may think.

Tips!

  • A great place to start is my Pinterest board! Sometimes visual examples is exactly what you need to spark ideas for outfits.

  • Don't be afraid to not "match" your outfits. If you have children, try not to dress them identically. I love when my images have texture, and I feel that having outfits that vary is best for that! You'll see in the photos I have as reference, that everyone's office coordinate, but aren't matchy matchy!

  • Make sure you are comfortable! The worst thing is to not feel like yourself, and be wearing clothes that don't make you feel confident.

  • If you're not opposed to wearing a dress, mother's/daughters/women in general, look amazing in dresses for sessions. It can really help give your session some "humph". Also, the movement of a dress is so fun to shoot!

  • Shoes DO matter. You'll read down below what shoe to avoid, but my suggestion for what TO wear, is a dressier shoe. As long as it goes with your outfit, of course :)

  • Finger nails! Make sure to not have any chipped nail polish. Painted nails for women is always an attractive touch.

  • Lips! Ladies, don't be afraid to put on some bold lips! Or, if that's not you, just add some color to your lips. Especially if it's a colder day, you may need some added color.

  • Pamper yourself before your shoot! What a perfect excuse to go get your hair and makeup done, right?!

  • Rips in clothes that aren't supposed to be there, is a no-go. If you have trendy ripped jeans, feel free to wear them.

  • Pet hair... make sure to roll yo self!

  • Neutrals. I love neutrals! Earth tones photograph really well. This doesn't mean you should avoid patterns, or having some good pops of color!

What not to wear

  • One of the first things I say to clients when they ask me for outfit suggestions is to avoid neon colors! They tend to reflect off the skin, and it's almost impossible to edit out of an image.

  • Please no tennis shoes! They just really dress down an outfit, and they're often distracting with the laces and colors. This goes for children, too. Try to avoid your typical running shoe.

  • Graphic tees/anything with writing. I typically only see this during newborn sessions. Because I shoot in my clients homes, it is easy to understand why people go for their more comfortable clothes, which often have writing/designs on them. These types of clothes are distracting, and pull away from the focus- your family!

  • Too many patterns - I think less is more when it comes to photos!

  • No baseball caps! They block the light on your face, and it makes it hard to see you.

What’s in my client closet?
