Astrid entered the world by surprising us all at how fast it went! Sara called me at 3:48am, saying she thought she was in labor, and they were waiting for the babysitter to get there. Sara then texted me at 4:17am, saying she was headed to the birth center. I left my house at 4:20, arrived around 4:40, and Astrid was born at 4:58am! I am SO glad that I made it in time, and I can thank my doula trainer for this. The week Astrid was born I finished my doula training down in Seattle, and at that last class, my instructor talked about second time moms. She was telling us stories of second time moms having super fast labors. I had that in mind, and hearing Sara’s voice on the phone, I knew I needed to leave right away.
When I arrived at her birth, I was surprised that her 3 year old was there. Turns out, Sara knew she couldn’t wait for the sitter before heading to the birth center. He did GREAT. It was so fun to have him there, and see his reaction to his new little sister. It was special, and I hope he remembers it!
